The Erie Tigers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Fort Collins 64-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Erie's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Callen Gebhardt, who scored 30 points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Gebhardt scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Lee, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Several Lambkins players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayce King, who scored 26 points along with three steals. That was a full 42.6% of Fort Collins' points, marking the ninth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Dmarco Sanchez-ferguson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists and six steals.
The win got Erie back to even at 4-4. As for Fort Collins, they bumped their record down to 4-5 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Erie the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Cheyenne Mountain at 12:00 p.m. on January 13th. Cheyenne Mountain will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 276th, while Erie is ranked 121st). As for Fort Collins, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Broomfield at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Broomfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
