La Joya is 9-1 against the Eagles since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The La Joya Coyotes will head out on the road to face off against the Mission Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully La Joya is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Eagles in Texas (the Coyotes are ranked 545th, while the Eagles are ranked 1105th).
La Joya waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They strolled past Economedes with points to spare, taking the game 72-54. La Joya pushed the score to 62-37 by the end of the third, a deficit the Jaguars cut but never quite recovered from.
It was another big night for Daniel Trevino, who scored 19 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Owen Benoit was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Mission has not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They enjoyed a cozy 52-35 win over Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on Friday.
La Joya's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-14. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. As for Mission, their win bumped their record up to 12-22.
Everything went La Joya's way against the Eagles in their previous matchup back in January as the Coyotes made off with a 58-37 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Mission's Isaac Rios, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.
