The Argyle Eagles will take on the Mansfield Summit Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
Argyle gave up the first points on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They took down Seguin 41-24. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Cougars are ranked 109th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Maguire Gasperson was his usual excellent self, throwing for 100 yards and two TDs, while also punching in a pair of touchdowns on the ground. What's more, he posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Obadiah Goble, who rushed for 69 yards and one score on only six carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Argyle was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 277 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 177 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Argyle didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Mateus Lafayette and Landon Howald. Howald also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine. Argyle got some further help from Brody Bomar: he made 16 total tackles.
Meanwhile, Mansfield Summit's game on Friday was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Mansfield Timberview by a score of 39-29.
Argyle better keep an eye on Ian Gebhardt. He was instrumental in Mansfield Summit's win, rushing for 214 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Omogbolahan Daudu, who rushed for 85 yards and two TDs on only 12 carries.
One reason for the win was Mansfield Summit's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Aamir Bell, Cameron Hall, and Markell Allen, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Mansfield Timberview's side was Bell, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made four total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Mansfield Summit's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Argyle, their win bumped their record up to an identical 5-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Argyle has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 244.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mansfield Summit struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 345.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Argyle took their victory against Mansfield Summit when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 31-6 score. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Jaguars' Adarion Nettles, who picked up 84 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 53 yards. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Eagles still be able to contain Nettles? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
