Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Polk County). They put the hurt on the Copper Basin Cougars with a sharp 17-2 win on Friday. The Wildcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.
Justin Green was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaden Branham, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Polk County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-6. As for Copper Basin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Polk County will host Tyner Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Copper Basin, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts at 5:00 p.m. on the 31st.
