Baseball Recap: Sand Creek Victorious

While Sand Creek's victory against Lenawee Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Aggies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Cougars on Wednesday. The Aggies haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Ivan Wilkinson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Sand Creek's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-2 (and 3-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Reid Hulett was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Andon Sutherland was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Sand Creek now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Lenawee Christian, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Looking ahead, Sand Creek will head out to take on Adrian at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Lenawee Christian, they will face off against Hillsdale at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
