The St. Xavier Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Paul Laurence Dunbar Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Last Thursday, St. Xavier didn't have quite enough to beat Lexington Catholic and fell 6-5. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
St. Xavier got a good showing from Mason Nett, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
At the plate, Kyle Krupp made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. Jaxon Coomer was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Paul Laurence Dunbar can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against Bryan Station by a score of 4-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 10, 2018, but that streak is no more.
Chris Hunt looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Max Elias, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Brooks White also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Paul Laurence Dunbar's record is now 2-3. As for St. Xavier, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Paul Laurence Dunbar's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: St. Xavier hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .378. It's a different story for Paul Laurence Dunbar, though, as they've only averaged .215. Will they be able to contain St. Xavier's hitters?
St. Xavier took their win against Paul Laurence Dunbar in their previous matchup back in May of 2021 by a conclusive 15-0. Does St. Xavier have another victory up their sleeve, or will Paul Laurence Dunbar turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
