Softball Recap: Malden Extends Winning Streak to Four

Malden entered their tilt with Holcomb on Monday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 16-10 win. For the Green Wave, this counts as revenge for the 9-4 victory the Hornets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Carsyn Cohen and Mariah Loya did most of the damage at the plate: Cohen went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base, while Loya went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Loya has posted since back in March. Kaitie Sparks was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Malden was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .412 or higher in seven consecutive contests.

Malden's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Holcomb, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-7.

Coming up, Malden will venture away from home to square off against Caruthersville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Holcomb, they will welcome New Madrid County Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
