The Montesano Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Rochester Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Montesano is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
On Saturday, Montesano got the win against College Place by a conclusive 16-5. Considering the Bulldogs have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Ali Parkin, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted over her last 13 matchups. Another player making a difference was Jaelyn Butterfield, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Montesano was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Rochester's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They came up short against Pe Ell/Willapa Valley, falling 15-6.
Layna Demers was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne Justice, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run.
Rochester's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Montesano, their win bumped their record up to 15-4-1.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Montesano hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .408. However, it's not like Rochester struggles in that department as they've averaged .381. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Montesano beat Rochester 7-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
