The Aurora Central Trojans were the 43-36 winner over the Thornton Trojans when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Aurora Central fell to Thornton 43-37. Aurora Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Trojans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jamaea Johnson Gonzalez, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and three steals. Johnson Gonzalez has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayna McClain, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Thornton was led to victory by Camryn Montelongo and Julionna Sandoval. Montelongo dropped a double-double on ten points and 16 rebounds, while Sandoval scored 18 points along with five assists and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sandoval has scored all season. Another player making a difference was My'la Hernandez Gutierrez, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Aurora Central now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Thornton, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Adams City the next time they take the court. Thornton will host Adams City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Aurora Central will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
