Cypress Springs hasn't had much luck against Cypress Woods recently, but that could start to change on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Cypress Springs Panthers duke it out with Cypress Woods Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Cypress Springs has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Cypress Springs' offense. They came up short against Langham Creek on Tuesday, falling 16-0. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Panthers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cypress Woods). They were the clear victor by an 18-2 margin over Cypress Lakes on Tuesday. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Morgan Becher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed over her last 14 matches.
At the plate, Cypress Woods got a massive performance out of Jordyn Traylor, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and one double. Those four runs gave Traylor a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Hopkins, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
Cypress Woods always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cypress Lakes only posted an OBP of .250.
Cypress Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 1-5-1. As for Cypress Woods, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 8-9-1.
Cypress Springs might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Cypress Woods when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Cypress Springs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
