Sadly, the Central Academy Cougars are still looking for their first win of the season after 18 contests. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 53-27 walloping at the hands of Piedmont on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Central Academy in their matchups with Piedmont: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Central Academy had strong showings from Abby Bliven, who scored four points along with two steals and two blocks, and Justice Hegwood, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hegwood has scored all season.
Emily Polk was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds for Piedmont. Polk is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 19 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mikayla Baucom, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Central Academy's defeat was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-18. As for Piedmont, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.
Central Academy will head out on the road to square off against Forest Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Central Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday. As for Piedmont, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mount Pleasant at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th.
