After flying high against the West Mecklenburg Hawks last Wednesday, the Mallard Creek Mavericks came back down to earth. Mallard Creek was dealt a 108-64 loss at the hands of North Mecklenburg on Friday. While losing is never fun, Mallard Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 178th, while North Mecklenburg is ranked ninth).
When it comes to explaining why Mallard Creek lost, one person who can't be blamed is Langston Boyd. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Boyd hasn't dropped below 17 points for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Gary Davis Jr., who scored 12 points.
Mallard Creek's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for North Mecklenburg, they pushed their record up to 17-3 with that win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.
Mallard Creek will take on Harding University at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Mallard Creek's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last ten matchups. As for North Mecklenburg, they will head out on the road to face off against Chambers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Mecklenburg has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
