The Gaithersburg Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 53-52 to Magruder. While losing is never fun, Gaithersburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Magruder is ranked 67th).
Magruder's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aiden Dabbondanza, who scored 13 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. The matchup was Dabbondanza's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Wil Dabbondanza, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Gaithersburg's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-7. As for Magruder, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.
Gaithersburg will finish 2023 at home by hosting Non Varsity Opponent at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Magruder and Wilde Lake will round out the year against one another at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at.
