Bellevue and Clyde are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Redmen will square off against the Fliers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bellevue is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Bellevue needed a bit of extra time to put away Columbian. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Tornadoes. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Redmen have posted since April 6, 2024.
Mallory Hay spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Payton Hicks, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Ryleigh Knutti was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Bellevue kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Clyde sidestepped Norwalk for a 3-2 win. The Fliers haven't had any issues with the Truckers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Clyde pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Bellevue, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-11.
Bellevue suffered a grim 17-3 defeat to Clyde in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Redmen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
