West Catholic recap October 8, 2013
St. Francis extended the longest winning streak in West Catholic this week by beating St. Ignatius, 14-6. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Serra was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Bellarmine. The Padres came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 34 last week.
Archbishop Riordan's dynamic duo of Zach Masoli and Robert Valencia proved tough for Archbishop Mitty to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Masoli threw for 120 yards and 1 touchdown and Valencia had 60 yards receiving. Jake Cochrane helped Archbishop Riordan's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 29 yards.
The Wildcats' Ryan Hagfeldt and Joe Lang led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Hagfeldt has thrown for 789 yards this season, while Lang has 20 catches for 238 yards. Valley Christian's Kirk Johnson leads the league in rushing yards with 577.
As it stands, the Warriors are in third, while the Monarchs are in second.
The Crusaders fell to Archbishop Mitty 51-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Masoli ran for 80 yards in the loss.
