On Friday, Athens were out to avenge their 21-27 defeat to Assumption from the last time they squared off against one another, but they had no such luck. Athens found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 22-46 punch to the gut against Assumption. The state rankings had actually given Athens a slight edge heading into the game, making this hurt that much more.
The loss dropped Athens back to even at 2-2. The win bumped Assumption's record up to 1-3.
Both teams are staying within the conference for their upcoming matches. Next week Athens take on Greenwood at 7:00 PM. As for Assumption, they will face off against Abbotsford.
