The Old Fort Stockaders will challenge the Calvert Senecas at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Old Fort is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Old Fort couldn't beat Lakota on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Stockaders fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 9-8. The Stockaders haven't had much luck with the Raiders recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Abbi Ward made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Marah Miller, who went 3-for-4 with one run.
Meanwhile, Calvert strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitcher stepped up to hand New Riegel a 3-0 shutout. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Senecas have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
The result came thanks to Ava Eilrich's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kate Coleman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
Calvert kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Riegel only managed one.
Calvert's win bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Old Fort, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Old Fort hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Calvert struggles in that department as they've averaged .399. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Old Fort came up short against Calvert in their previous meeting on Monday, falling 6-2. Will the Stockaders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
