South Warren is a perfect 10-0 against Warren Central since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. South Warren is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Greenwood, who was ranked third at the time (South Warren was ranked first). The Spartans were the clear victors by a 17-11 margin over the Gators on Tuesday. Considering the Spartans have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Emme Goss looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kinleigh Russell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was McLaine Hudson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
South Warren lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Warren Central fell victim to Bowling Green and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Purples, falling 11-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
South Warren's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Warren Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.
Everything went South Warren's way against Warren Central when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as South Warren made off with a 15-0 win. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
