The East Chapel Hill Wildcats fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Durham Academy Cavaliers on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 43-42 to the Cavaliers. East Chapel Hill was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cavaliers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
East Chapel Hill lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lauren Steiner, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaiah Freeman, who scored eight points along with 15 rebounds.
Durham Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sasha Bilsborrow out in front who scored seven points along with five steals. Rashyia "Shy" Williams was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for East Chapel Hill and nudges their season record down to 8-11. As for Durham Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-14.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Chapel Hill will challenge the Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Northern Durham has now lost 12 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1. As for Durham Academy, they and the Saints will face off at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. St. Mary's is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
