Conner Fleming was a standout: he got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Legg, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Morgan County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .587. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Prestonsburg only posted an OBP of .400.
Rowan County came out on top against West Carter on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run second inning. The Vikings put the hurt on the Comets with a sharp 18-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Braxton Smith made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other pitching news, Sawyer Rodgers looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
Back at the plate, Rowan County got a massive performance out of Aaron Pennington, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. The Vikings are 11-2 when Pennington posts two or more runs, but 3-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Grant Rose, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one double.
Morgan County is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Rowan County, their record is now 14-11.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Morgan County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Rowan County struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
