Even though the South Webster Jeeps have not done well against the Waverly Tigers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. South Webster came out on top against Waverly by a score of 58-46. Given South Webster's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while Waverly is ranked 427th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading South Webster to victory were Tyler Sommer and Jack Timothy. Sommer scored 21 points along with two blocks, while Timothy scored 19 points. Sommer is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Eli Roberts was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five assists and five rebounds.
South Webster's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Waverly, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Webster won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Federal Hocking at 7:30 p.m. on January 13th. Federal Hocking will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Waverly, they will head out on the road to take on Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
