Volcano Vista faced Eldorado in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Volcano Vista walked away with a 5-2 win over Eldorado. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Golden Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

Aaron Sanchez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).

On the hitting side, Volcano Vista let Aiden Gonzales and Andres Holguin run wild. Gonzales went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run, while Holguin scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that Holguin snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Evan Tafoya, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Volcano Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.

Volcano Vista's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Eldorado, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Volcano Vista Hawks challenge Rio Grande Ravens at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Volcano Vista's pitchers better be ready for this one: Rio Grande has averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Eldorado, they will square off against Atrisco Heritage Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
