Brunswick Academy is 9-1 against Southampton Academy since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Vikings will be playing at home against the Raiders at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Brunswick Academy comes in on four and Southampton Academy on three.
Last Friday, Brunswick Academy beat Isle of Wight Academy 7-2. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by exactly five runs.
Olivia Ann Evans spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Aubrey Lynn Corum was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Lexi Vaughan Howerton was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Corum wasn't the only one making solid contact: Brunswick Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Southampton Academy made easy work of Amelia Academy on Wednesday and carried off a 19-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won four games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Dutchess Rose made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rose was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reagan Webb, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Braun, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Brunswick Academy's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Southampton Academy, they now have a winning record of 5-4-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Brunswick Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Southampton Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Brunswick Academy's way against Southampton Academy when the teams last played back in March, as Brunswick Academy made off with a 13-0 victory. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
