Softball Recap: Whitewright Takes Down Bland in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Whitewright rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over Bland. Considering Whitewright has won 12 matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Taryn Minzenmayer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joslyn Jones, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Taylor Jones, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Whitewright kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive contests.

Whitewright has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Bland, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-16.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Whitewright beat Bland by a score of 14-4 later that day.
