The Rockwell Marshals stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They put the hurt on American Prep WV with a sharp 58-38 win. Rockwell's win was all the more impressive since American Prep WV was averaging only 27.64 points allowed on the season.
Despite the loss, American Prep WV saw an underclassman step up: Jimena Cortes scored 20 points. That's the first time this season that Cortes scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Yom Mapuor, who scored eight points.
The win was the sixth in a row for Rockwell, bringing their record for this year to 11-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for American Prep WV, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rockwell won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Milford at 2:30 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Milford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Thursday. As for American Prep WV, they will head out on the road to square off against Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams is ranked 128th, while American Prep WV is ranked 132nd).
