The Sahuarita Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They fell to Rio Rico 46-42. Sahuarita was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Rio Rico apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Sahuarita lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alejandro Vega. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Zack Myhre, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Sahuarita's loss was their seventh straight at home, which bumped their record down to 6-16. As for Rio Rico, their win ended a eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-14.
Sahuarita will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Walden Grove at 7:00 p.m. Walden Grove knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 contests -- so hopefully Sahuarita likes a good challenge. As for Rio Rico, they will head out on the road to face off against Mica Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mica Mountain will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
