The Lumpkin County Indians put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Dawson County by a score of 34-23. Given Lumpkin County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Dawson County is ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lumpkin County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cal Faulkner out in front who threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Lumpkin County also got a significant boost from Mason Sullens, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 122 yards.
Lumpkin County's victory was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Franklin County and 2-8 Dawson County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33.1% over those games). As for Dawson County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Lumpkin County will head out on the road to face off against West Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Hall has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since August 25. Dawson County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
