The Kountze Lions will square off against the Anahuac Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Kountze is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
On Tuesday, Kountze didn't have quite enough to beat Hardin and fell 3-2.
Kountze saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addie Latino, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Anahuac ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against East Chambers, sneaking past 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since February 21st.
Brecken Wilpitz spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Keeley Butler, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hannah Mckenzie, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Anahuac has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Kountze, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
Anahuac's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Kountze has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Anahuac, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Kountze keep running through batters, or will the Panthers buck the trend?
Kountze suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Anahuac when the teams last played back in March. Will the Lions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
