Basketball Recap: Utopian Academy for the Arts Comes Up Short

Utopian Academy for the Arts was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 106-65 loss at the hands of the Notre Dame Academy Irish Wolfhounds. While losing is never fun, Utopian Academy for the Arts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while Notre Dame Academy is ranked 203rd).

Despite the defeat, Utopian Academy for the Arts saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Adam Smith went 6 for 7 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Jace Franklin was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 15 points and eight rebounds.

It was another big night for Kiandrey Thomas, who went 11 of 20from beyond the arc on his way to 50 points along with five assists and five boards for Notre Dame Academy. Thomas has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Geronimo Holmes was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds.

Utopian Academy for the Arts' loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Notre Dame Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.

Utopian Academy for the Arts wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 76-48 defeat against Lamar County on the 6th. As for Notre Dame Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 92-78 loss against Patriot on the 5th.
