Deerfield had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over the Highland Park Giants on Wednesday. The Warriors have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Giants, too.

While Deerfield won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-20.

Isabella Miechowicki paced Deerfield's offense, picking up 11 kills. Miechowicki got some help from Rosemary Smrecek and her 13 assists. Abigail Garcia controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Deerfield will take on Warren Township in a tournament on Friday. As for Highland Park, they will venture away from home to square off against Evanston at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
