Pilot Point is 1-7 against Brock since September of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Pilot Point Bearcats will head out on the road to face off against the Brock Eagles at 7:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Pilot Point has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Brock will arrive with five straight wins.
Pilot Point fell victim to Peaster's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 38-0 loss at the hands of the Greyhounds.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Brock's strategy against Ponder on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Brock blew Ponder out of the water with a 69-12 final score. Given Brock's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Ponder is ranked 707th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brock's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brody Woods, who rushed for 161 yards on only nine carries, and also threw for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Woods' longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards. Brett Tutter was another key contributor, rushing for 146 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Ponder to a paltry 134 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Brock's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out 16 times before it was all said and done. It was a group effort, with three guys contributing.
Pilot Point's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 7.0 points per game. As for Brock, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Pilot Point took a serious blow against Brock in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, falling 48-0. Can Pilot Point avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
