Highlands hasn't had much luck against Brackenridge recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Owls will take on the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Highlands has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Highlands came up short against Seguin on Thursday, falling 13-2.
Meanwhile, Brackenridge had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Mustangs. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Ethan Polendo spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brackenridge let Joseph Perez and Jordan Monroy run wild. Perez went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Monroy got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four RBI gave Perez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miguel Medrano, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Brackenridge's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Highlands, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-20.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Highlands has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Brackenridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Highlands might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Brackenridge in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Owls avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
