Basketball Recap: Monte Vista Comes Up Short on the Road Against Crowley County

Monte Vista had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They were dealt a 72-42 defeat at the hands of the Crowley County Chargers. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-21.

When it comes to explaining why Monte Vista lost, don't look at Azariah Hurtado. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points. The match was Hurtado's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alex Marquez, who put up seven points.

Crowley County had a senior duo take command as Anthoni Walter went 9 of 10 on his way to 22 points and six rebounds and Gunner Hughes shot 7-for-12 from long range and dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Vowles, who had six points in addition to nine assists and five boards.

Monte Vista wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 60-45 win against Swink on the 7th. As for Crowley County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 77-32 victory against La Junta on the 7th.
