Cincinnati Country Day is a perfect 4-0 against St. Bernard-Elmwood Place since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Nighthawks will be taking part in a tournament against the Titans at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Monday, Cincinnati Country Day was able to grind out a solid win over Carlisle, taking the game 6-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Nighthawks.
Casey Newman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elijah Guttman, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Patrick Ramage, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Cincinnati Country Day hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, St. Bernard-Elmwood Place beat New Miami 9-4 on Friday. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Jason Helphinstein made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Lucas Cannady was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Aiden Rack, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Cincinnati Country Day pushed their record up to 13-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for St. Bernard-Elmwood Place, their win bumped their record up to 13-6.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cincinnati Country Day hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like St. Bernard-Elmwood Place struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Cincinnati Country Day's way against St. Bernard-Elmwood Place in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, as Cincinnati Country Day made off with a 16-0 victory.
