Victory Christian Academy had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-8 to make it four. They took a 15-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southern Christian Patriots. On the bright side, the 11- run effort marked the Eagles' highest-scoring match to date.
Carter Chatman put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Victory Christian Academy: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, Easton Durden was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Raygen Langley, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
As for Southern Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.
Like Victory Christian Academy, Southern Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Elijah Bailey. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Bailey posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caleb Chatman, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jaxon Frazier was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Victory Christian Academy will challenge Success Unlimited Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Southern Christian, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 13-10 victory against East Central HomeSchool on the 25th.
