The Liberty Hawks will face off against the Chowchilla Tribe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Chowchilla will be up against a hot Liberty squad: the team just extended their winning streak to nine. The Hawks blew past Riverdale 41-20 on Friday. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while the Cowboys are ranked 743rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
One reason for the win was Liberty's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Riverdale's QB won't forget Brody Sisco anytime soon given he sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Chowchilla, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Caruthers 47-7. With the Tribe ahead 27-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Liberty better keep an eye on Tristan Beardsley. He was instrumental in Chowchilla's win, rushing for 119 yards and three scores on only nine carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Beardsley a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mateo Martinez, who rushed for 68 yards and one touchdown.
Chowchilla was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 366 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 216 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.
Chowchilla didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Grant Donegan and Paul Miranda.
Liberty's win bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Chowchilla, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Liberty has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 355.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Chowchilla struggles in that department as they've been averaging 272 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Liberty might still be hurting after the 63-42 loss they got from Chowchilla when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Will the Hawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other football content.
