Lucas Collins made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Braden Aguirre was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Eddie Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as DeKalb only posted an OBP of .375.
Meanwhile, while Angola put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran. The Hornets came out on top against the Cadets by a score of 3-0. The game was the first time the Hornets have beaten the Cadets on their field since May 25, 2016.
Not much got past Brady Warren, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran off the board. Warren also tossed no walks, which is notable because Angola is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 9-13 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Angola saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Myles Steury, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Angola is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-14 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, their win bumped their record up to 21-8.
