Weddington is 8-2 against Cuthbertson since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Weddington 1.8, Cuthbertson 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Cuthbertson will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Weddington extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Warriors' pitchers stepped up to hand Sun Valley a 9-0 shutout. Considering the Warriors have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Cuthbertson ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Porter Ridge, sneaking past 12-10. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Cavaliers, who until this match were averaging 3.42 runs allowed.
Georgia McConnell spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and five unearned) runs on 12 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alexis Juhl, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gabby Martens, who went 3-for-5 with one home run and three runs.
Juhl wasn't the only one making solid contact: Cuthbertson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.
Cuthbertson's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Weddington, their victory bumped their record up to 15-1.
Weddington was able to grind out a solid win over Cuthbertson in their previous meeting back in March, winning 5-1. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
