Maria Ontiveros was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, El Paso got a massive performance out of Mia Estrada, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Camila Caldera, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Jefferson came up short against Chapin on Wednesday, falling 22-1. The Silver Foxes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jefferson saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elizabella Quinonez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Quinonez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
Jefferson's loss dropped their record down to 18-5-1. As for El Paso, their victory bumped their record up to 7-20.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. El Paso hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like Jefferson struggles in that department as they've averaged .497. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
