The Founders Christian Falcons came tearing into Friday's match with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 62-60 victory over The Covenant Preparatory School. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Cody Baker continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points along with six assists and five rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 20 points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Owen Anderson, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, The Covenant Preparatory School saw an underclassman step up: Joshua Kennedy scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Tye Leatherman was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Founders Christian is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-11 record this season. As for The Covenant Preparatory School, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 17-7.
Founders Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. The Covenant Preparatory School is on the road again on Monday and plays Calvary Baptist at 6:30 p.m. on February 12th. The Covenant Preparatory School knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 matchups -- so hopefully Calvary Baptist likes a good challenge.
