It was a good run, but the Spring Creek Spartans unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 73-61 to Fernley. Spring Creek has struggled against Fernley recently, as their game on Saturday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Spring Creek still got an impressive performance from Darren Bylund, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaron Johnson, who scored 14 points.
Even though they lost, Spring Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fernley only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Fernley found their leader in underclassman Sheldon Jacobson, who scored 25 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jacobson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Johnnie Williams, who scored 16 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Spring Creek's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-6. As for Fernley, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spring Creek and Elko will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Spring Creek has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 340 points over their last five matches. Fernley is on the road again on Friday and plays Churchill County at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th.
