The Rocky Mountain Grizzlies will head out to face off against the Borah Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rocky Mountain has four straight victories, Borah has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Rocky Mountain is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Capital, who was ranked fourth at the time (Rocky Mountain was ranked 15th). The Grizzlies came out on top against the Golden Eagles by a score of 6-2 on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Megan McCormick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Danica Quinn was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Hadley Griggs was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Rocky Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Borah came up short against Nampa on Saturday and fell 9-4. That's two games in a row now that the Lions have lost by exactly five runs.
Kayla Campbell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Naylor, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Rocky Mountain's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Borah, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
Rocky Mountain took their win against Borah when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 20-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
