Softball Recap: Second Baptist Wins Going Away Against Rivera

Second Baptist had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Rivera on Saturday. The Eagles were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over the Raiders. That seven-run margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.

Vanessa Canas made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Darby, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those runs were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sofia Duarte, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Second Baptist always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Second Baptist's record is now 4-2. As for Rivera, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coming up, Second Baptist will face off against Houston Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rivera, they will square off against Flour Bluff at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
