The matchup between the Jefferson County Tigers and the South Pike Eagles on Tuesday hardly resembled the 2-0 effort from their previous meeting. Jefferson County took a 77-73 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Pike. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
South Pike's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lavell Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds. The match was Thompson's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Jovon Leavy was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Jefferson County and nudges their season record down to 6-9. As for South Pike, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson County will challenge Northeast Jones at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday. As for South Pike, they will head out on the road to face off against Franklin County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
