The Williston Red Devils struggled with assists on Monday (the Dunnellon Tigers had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Williston suffered a tough 63-40 defeat at the hands of Dunnellon. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Williston has scored all season.
Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tia Coleman, who scored four points along with seven rebounds. Coleman also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Natreana Akanni , who scored five points along with ten rebounds.
Tatiana Matthews was her usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with nine steals and five assists for Dunnellon. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Matthews has scored at least 25% of Dunnellon's points. Alexa Weiser was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Williston has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Dunnellon, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Williston will take on Vanguard at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Vanguard is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak. Dunnellon won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Belleview at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th.
