The Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Woodrow Wilson will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
While Woodrow Wilson's victory against Wyoming East wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Flying Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 win over the Warriors on Friday.
Karlie Fraley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Hadley Reott was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kirsten Curry also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Buckhannon-Upshur was able to grind out a solid victory over Fairmont Senior on Friday, taking the game 7-2. The Buccaneers haven't had any issues with the Polar Bears recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Buckhannon-Upshur also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Becca Pastorius gave up two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Avery Hamer, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Kynnedy Marple was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Woodrow Wilson pushed their record up to 7-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Buckhannon-Upshur, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Woodrow Wilson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Buckhannon-Upshur struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
