Canyon View hasn't had much luck against Dixie recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Canyon View Falcons will head out on the road to challenge the Dixie Flyers at 7:30 p.m. Canyon View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Canyon View didn't have quite enough to beat Desert Hills and fell 10-9. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Zach Maine made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Those hits marked the first that he got this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Asher Slack, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
Maine wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Canyon View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Dixie entered their tilt with Springville on Saturday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Red Devils.
Ethan McArthur spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Marcus Benson was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. Colton Hill was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Dixie's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Canyon View, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Canyon View has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Dixie struggles in that department as they've averaged .492. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Canyon View might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Dixie in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Can Canyon View avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
