Douglas Byrd got a massive performance out of Kadence Norton, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those five hits gave Norton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Camille Singleton, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
Douglas Byrd was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. They are 5-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, St. Pauls got the win against Douglas Byrd on Tuesday by a conclusive 16-1. Considering the Bulldogs have won eight contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Angel Purcell made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Purcell was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Amier Purcell and Baylea Hall did most of the damage at the plate: Amier went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Hall got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jerzey Jacobs, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
St. Pauls' victory bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Douglas Byrd, their win bumped their record up to 5-11.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Douglas Byrd has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .600. However, it's not like St. Pauls struggles in that department as they've averaged .472. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
