Downingtown East and Bayard Rustin are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. Downingtown East will venture away from home to challenge Bayard Rustin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Downingtown East was able to grind out a solid win over Downingtown West, taking the game 4-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Sam Wendig was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, Lilly Waterer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. Lucia Giuliano was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Bayard Rustin had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They had just enough and edged out East 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golden Knights have posted since April 10, 2024.
Like Downingtown East, Bayard Rustin also got a great game from a two-way player: Ashley Falcone. She tossed eight innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. Falcone was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josie Jacobs, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jenna Kraft, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
The win got Downingtown East back to even at 3-3. As for Bayard Rustin, their record now sits at 1-0.
Downingtown East beat Bayard Rustin 5-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Downingtown East since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
