Columbus is a perfect 4-0 against Hialeah Educational Academy since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Columbus Explorers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hialeah Educational Academy Biggie at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Tuesday, Columbus was able to grind out a solid win over Palmetto, taking the game 12-7.
Wyatt Goins looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in February.
On the hitting side, Rafael Diaz was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Correa, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Hialeah Educational Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Mater Academy Charter on Monday and fell 11-10. The Biggie haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
ERNESTO VELASCO and DIEGO PEREZ did some serious damage despite the final result: VELASCO scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while PEREZ went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. VELASCO also put up two doubles, which were his first of the season. JOSE AVILES was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Even though they lost, Hialeah Educational Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Hialeah Educational Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Columbus, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Columbus has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Hialeah Educational Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Columbus skirted past Hialeah Educational Academy 4-3 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Does Columbus have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hialeah Educational Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
